Marie’s journey

After years spent commuting between Los Angeles, Lagos and Nairobi, I started looking for a place that combined the Californian lifestyle that I loved with an easy access to Africa, where I worked.

As a life-long entrepreneur who'd never held a salaried job before, I also needed a place where banks would lend me money to buy property without having to show pay slips. Lisbon ticked all the boxes, and then some (Octopus and sweet potatoes! Beautiful beaches! Super friendly people!).

I purchased and renovated my first Lisbon apartment in 2019. I have now been living here full time for over two years as a Portuguese fiscal resident under the NHR status, which gives me a 10 year tax exemption.

I have since made several other real estate investments and built a trusted network of lawyers, bankers, agents, architects, builders and interior designers.
