What does the ‘More Housing’ program mean for you?

The recent announcement of the ‘More Housing’ (Mais Habitação) measures by the Portuguese government is unfortunately creating a lot of instability and confusion in the market.

What do they mean for you?

• If you intended to invest in real estate in Portugal for Golden Visa or Airbnb purposes, clearly, these are not good news. However, there always are and will be exceptions and opportunities. 

• If you were looking at Portugal either as a permanent or part-time personal residence, or to invest in commercial development projects, the above measures are unlikely to affect you.

• The high-end segment of the market, that largely concerns properties bought and sold among foreigners, is also unlikely to be impacted.

• For non-EU citizens, remember that there are other affordable, legal ways to move and reside in Portugal such as the D7 “retirement” visa and the Digital Nomad visa.
